What Toys Do Cats Like the Most?

Ragdoll cats are highly recommended to be indoor cats because they are so trusting and not very street smart. So with that in mind, it’s important to keep them happy and engaged by providing them with a variety of the best toys for ragdoll cats you can find.

Ragdolls are very curious and need stimulation and variety in their lives, so regular new toys is a great way to give them a fulfilled and happy life.

I have a toy box for my two ragdolls, Mr. Fudge and Teddy, which I use to rotate their toys regularly. They genuinely get excited when I bring out new toys – even if they are some of their old favorites that they haven’t seen in a while!

It’s important to choose stimulating cat toys that will entertain your ragdoll and bring out their natural instincts, such as pouncing and jumping.

We’ve also found that our two ragdoll cats (who you can learn more about here!), like a variety of toys to play with. Sometimes a ball might be their favorite toy and other days, a toy mouse or wand toy.

What Type of Toys Are Best for Ragdoll Cats?

We’ve ranked the ragdoll cat toys below based on the following criteria:

  • The most stimulating cat toys
  • The most interactive ragdoll cat toys
  • The best ragdoll cat toys based on our experience of owning two ragdoll cats (we’ve been through a LOT of toys over the years!)
  • Value for money – taking quality into consideration. We’ve been through a lot of toys that have only lasted a few days before one of the boys breaks it!

So, let’s dive in!

9 Best Toys for Ragdoll Cats

1. Wand Toys

We’ve put wand cat toys first because, based on our experience, they will always be the best toy for ragdoll cats!

Wand toys with dangling objects, bells or feathers are perfect for interactive playtime with your ragdoll.

Like all cats, ragdolls love to chase and pounce on moving objects, so wand toys, such as feather wands, are perfect for this.

We’ve tried a lot of different wand toys for cats and the best ones we’ve found are wands made of wood, because they’re super sturdy. We’ve also found that our boys like to chew the wood.

Finally, wooden wand toys for cats are much more eco friendly than plastic versions, and we’ve found they last a lot longer in our household.

3 Wooden Cat Wand Options
  1. This wooden rod toy with cotton ribbon has lasted the longest with our two ragdolls. I would definitely purchase from this brand again (they’re called Kater Kasimir) and I’ve recommended them to my friends with cats. I’m based in the UK and it is a German brand so I’m not sure if it’s available worldwide. However, below are another couple of wooden cat rod toys which I think look really good.
  2. CiyvoLyeen Goldfishes Wooden Cat Wand – We love this one because of the fish and organic cat nip. I’ve found wand toys which cat nip go down really well in our house!
  3. Fringe Studio Multi Pack Wand – This full range of cat wands is super cute. I love the different characters and the fact that they have bells on them. I’ve found any ragdoll cat toys that make noise are a huge hit and bring out your ragdoll’s natural instincts to chase and pounce.

We also found that wands are perfect ragdoll kitten toys, too. Our ragdoll cats have always played with wand toys, from when they were tiny kittens to now.

Non-Wooden Cat Wand Option

If you’d prefer a plastic cat wand, I’ve always found than the longer wands go down the best in our household.

This retractable cat wand looks like a good option because you get lots of different attachments, so hopefully it should last you a lot longer than other plastic wand toys, and keep your ragdoll cats entertained for longer!

2. Balls

Ragdoll cats are known as “puppy cats” amongst the ragdoll cat community because they are puppy-like in their affection, and they love to play.

When we got Mr Fudge, our seal point ragdoll, his breeder gave us a little starter package which included a red soft and bouncy ball.

No matter what toys we’ve bought him since (and trust me, we’ve bought a lot!), he always goes back to his little red ball.

It melts my heart because he ends up going into kitten mode again, jumping around to catch it. His all-time favorite game is fetch but if I’m not around to play, I’ve also often found him just playing with it by himself! So adorable.

Here’s a couple of ball recommendations, similar to Mr.Fudge’s favourite:

  1. Bouncy balls – the best kind of ball for ragdoll cats in my experience are balls you can bounce! We have these Red Rainbow Cat Toy Balls and when I bounce them on the floor both my boys will jump up like a dog. They’re also great for throwing and small enough that ragdolls can pick them up with their mouths and bring them back. I never thought I’d play fetch with a cat but it’s one of their favorite games!
  2. Interactive cat ball – we have this ball for our cats and every time I bring it out they go crazy! Because it’s interactive it also keeps them entertained by themselves for longer than some of the more manual toys. However I don’t have it out all the time because it can get quite annoying!
  3. Cat ball track – we also have a cat ball track similar to this one for our cats which keeps them entertained. I think having two ragdolls makes a difference for this toy as they often play with it together, keeping them occupied for a while!

3. Patorama Cat Toys

When doing research for this blog, I couldn’t help but notice the Patorama brand of cat toys and supplies. They take interactive cat toys to the next level – from realistic bird toys (no real birds harmed in the hunting process, perfect!) to their hide and seek interactive mats, we are a big fan of this brand!

Are you a fan of Halloween? One final shout out to their seasonal range! Look how cute these Halloween cat nip pillow toys are, and this horror knife-shaped toy!

4. Tunnel Toys

Ragdoll cats also have a natural instinct to explore, and tunnels provide them with the perfect opportunity to do so.

We were given a tunnel toy as part of Mr.Fudge’s kitten care package and it still gets used today, over five years on.

Here’s Mr.Fudge with the cat tunnel he’s had since he was a kitten!

Over the years we’ve bought a few, which seem to be getting bigger and bigger as our ragdolls have grown. They both still love to race through them though and play together, usually when they have the zoomies!

There are some pretty epic cat tunnels available now, such as this tunnel toy with five different tunnels!

One of the best things about cat tunnels is that they fold away to be really compact, so they are a good option if you don’t want cat toys everywhere all the time (easier said than done!)

Equally, if you just choose a smaller, standard cat tunnel toy your ragdoll will still have loads of fun racing through it and making loads of noise!

We also bought this cat tunnel tree skirt to go around our Christmas tree last year (thanks to being influenced by TikTok!) which worked really well at protecting the tree and providing our ragdoll cats with some fun. It also doubles up as a cat bed which means you can use it all year round.

5. Interactive Cat Toys

Interactive cat toys come in all different shapes and sizes and are a great way of keeping your ragdolls entertained if you’re short of time to play with them. A lot of the interactive cat toy options now available are also automatic, which means if your ragdoll starts playing with them they’ll move by themselves.

Here are a couple of our favorite interactive cat toys:

  • Automatic cat toy ball – we have this toy and it’s definitely a favorite in our house! The battery life is good, it makes noise, has lights and moves itself.
  • Interactive challenge toys – this treat puzzle toy is a great option as it makes your ragdoll work harder for their treats, while keeping them mentally and physically stimulated.

6. Catnip Toys

Catnip-infused toys are a great way to provide your ragdoll with a burst of energy and playfulness, stimulating their senses with a scent they go crazy for!

Top tip: if you have more than one ragdoll make sure you have more than one cat nip toy available! Our ragdolls become very territorial over their cat nip toys so it’s best to give them one each (although they’ll inevitably still fight over the same one, of course!)

Here’s a quick list of our favorite catnip toys:

7. Cat Trees & Scratchers

Some people might not class cat trees and cat stratchers as cat toys, however you can now get them in all different shapes and sizes, many with interactive elements too to encourage your ragdoll play, jump, pounce and scratch.

We’ve gone through quite a different cat trees over the years, even adding additional toys to the tree to make it even more interactive for our two boys!

Ragdolls love to scratch, so investing in sturdy scratching posts will save your furniture from their claws.

Here’s a few of our top recommendations:

  1. Scratching posts with dangly toys – these are great for playing and scratching!
  2. Interactive cardboard scratchers – I’m a big fan of cardboard scratchers and this option has the added bonus of doubling up as an interactive toy too.
  3. Cat tree tower condo – why not go all out with the ultimate cat tree combining scratching posts, toys and cat beds!

8. Not Really Cat Toy, Toys…

We’ve put “not really cat toy, toys” in the list because our boys LOVE playing with anything that isn’t *technically* a cat toy. If you’re a fellow cat owner you’ll know exactly what I mean…

“If I fits, I sits”

Cardboard boxes? Scrunched up bits of aluminium foil? Anything that makes a rustling noise, string, pen lids, even q-tips! Our ragdoll cats love to play fetch with these kind of ‘toys’, which is just adorable. And cost effective!

What About Ragdoll Kitten Toys?

When our two ragdoll cats were kittens they definitely wanted (and needed) to play more, which meant we got through way more toys than we do now.

As kittens, they liked the same toys as we’ve listed above but I’d say the wand toys were always a firm favorite.

You can also get kitten friendly versions of toys, which are usually smaller, such as:

  1. Wands with smaller attachments, like this FYNIGO Interactive Cat Kitten Wand Toy. I remember buying a wand toy for Fudge when he was still a kitten and it had a huge hedgehog at the end of it and he was genuinely scared of it! So I’d recommend sticking to less intense kittens wands – with one piece of ribbon or one feather.
  2. Little toys like this set of Pom Poms and springs are the perfect toys for ragdoll kittens as they’re small enough for their little paws and their little mouths! My cats would genuinely play fetch with these kind of toys when they were kittens – bringing them back to me to throw again. So cute!
  3. Small tunnel toys like this iCAGY Foldable Spiral Cat Tunnel are great for kittens. We were given a small tunnel toy in Fudge’s kitten care package and it was one of his favorite toys to zoom through! He would also play alone with it which was a bonus. The iCAGY tunnel looks particularly good as you can buy them in sets and tie them together as your ragdoll grows!

As kittens, ragdolls require even more attention and they’d prefer to play with you than by themselves. This is why having two ragdoll kittens as the same time is also a good idea, so they can play together.
