What Is a Flame Point Ragdoll?

A flame point ragdoll is known for its unique orange markings, with the Cat Fanciers Association (CFA) defining a flame point ragdoll as a ragdoll cat with red or orange colors and markings.

You might also have heard other names to describe a flame point ragdoll. For example:

  • Flame tip ragdoll
  • Flame bicolor ragdoll
  • White flame point ragdoll
  • Orange ragdoll, or red ragdoll

All of these names are describing the ragdoll’s coloring, but essentially they are all ways of describing flame point ragdoll cats.

A flame point ragdoll cat is defined by its color and markings:

1. Flame refers to their coloring. Orange, red, or a mixture of the two colors which is combined with a creamy white body color.

2. Point refers to their markings. Usually, flame ragdolls have clusters of color that are more defined around their face and nose, ears, lower legs/feet, tail, and possibly swirls of color in other areas such as their back.

It’s not always easy to tell which ragdoll cat colors are recognized within the ragdoll cat community as traditional colors. However, flame point ragdolls are recognized by both the CFA and The International Cat Association (TICA) as an official ragdoll cat color.

One question people often ask is, are flame point ragdolls rare? And the simple answer is yes, they are rare! Flame point ragdolls, red point ragdolls, or whatever you prefer to call them are a lot rarer than blue or chocolate point ragdolls, which are more common and popular amongst ragdoll cat owners.

However, we definitely have a soft spot for flame ragdolls, with their gorgeous blue eyes and cute baby-pink noses and paws. Talking of cute, let’s take a look at some flame point kittens!

Flame Lynx Point Ragdoll

Next up, you may have heard of a flame lynx point ragdoll when doing your research on flame ragdolls. A flame lynx point ragdoll has the word ‘lynx’ added to its name to describe the type of markings it has.

All lynx ragdolls have tabby point markings (imagine a traditional tabby cat), which have clearly defined ‘M’ shaped lines on their faces and around their eyes. Basically, that means the name flame lynx point ragdoll describes the shape of the gorgeous swirls and patterns on their faces.

Prince Pierre (what a great name), the flame lynx point ragdoll, is a great example. Just look at his gorgeous lynx markings, they make him look like a tiger!

Flame Mink Ragdoll

Another name to describe flame ragdolls that you may have heard of is a flame mink ragdoll. Here, the addition of the word ‘mink’ in a flame mink ragdoll’s name refers to their fur type.

Although he’s not a flame ragdoll, my male ragdoll Teddy is a seal sepia mink ragdoll, which makes his fur a lot finer, smoother, and sleeker than your average ragdoll cat. The coloring and markings of a flame mink will be the same as other flame ragdolls with the addition of a different fur type.

Mink ragdolls are just as gorgeous as other ragdoll cats, however, their fur can get a lot more matted so it’s important to groom them regularly with a suitable cat brush.
